One of Florence’s best-loved typical trattorias, Mamma Gina is situated in a 15th century palace with vaulted ceilings and furnished in an elegant yet rustic style. The restaurant was established in the early Fifties when Signora Gina started cooking meals for the workmen dredging sand from the Arno for use in the many building sites involved in repairing the damage caused by the bombing in World War II. Now run by Marino Cinali, Mamma Gina still offers traditional-style cooking based on the genuine, simple and delicious dishes of times past. Its menus include a wide assortment of traditional soups, typical hors d’oeuvres, pasta and mouthwatering grilled specialities. The trattoria’s grilled fillet of steak for lovers of really good meat is quite unforgettable and the huge wine cellar includes classical Chianti and a wide selection of Tuscan wines, as well as all the best Italian and international wines. The pleasant environment and excellent service have made it popular with famous personalities from the Italian and international political, cultural and theatrical scene while the friendly and helpful staff create an atmosphere that is a perfect demonstration of the finest hospitality Florence can offer.
