| Trattoria La Carabaccia proposes the best of Tuscan cuisine in a typically Florentine environment in the area between Santa Maria Novella and Porta a Prato. The restaurant takes its name from the boats, shaped like seashells, that were once used to ferry salt and sand across the Arno.
This name however was also given to a special soup, based on onions, the forefather of the French version, imported by Catherine de’ Medici.
The menu ranges from appetizers of canapes and cold cuts, to first courses based on fresh pasta or hearty soups, while entrees include various grilled meats.
Most of the dishes are meat based but there is also fish, with such delicacies as swordfish carpaccio, baked salmon or delicious sea bass. The meals are all accompanied by top quality wines and home made desserts.
Summer dining at the Carabaccia is particularly pleasant thanks to the delightful outside terrace giving onto the street.
