| Il Profeta is 26 years old. Always mentioned in the Michelin Guide, this historic restaurant, run by Claudio Pieri, is one of the few places in Florence that has always managed to maintain the same high level of quality.
The environment is typically Tuscan with paintings by well-known artists on the walls. The restaurant offers an interesting Florentine Renaissance menu that includes the Grand Ducal Au Gratin, the Lorenzo the Magnificent Fillet and the Orange-scented Lobster whiskers, winners of the Maitre of the Year award. It offers a wide selection of Tuscan specialities like croutons topped with extra virgin olive oil from Poggio Piano, home-made pasta, Florentine tripe, Tagliata (sliced steak) with Colonnata lard, Livorno-style salted cod and inzimino. The desserts are home-made and we warmly advise the Profeta’s trifle, that falls halfway between a Tiramisù (a coffee flavoured trifle) and a Zabaglione. The wine list boasts a vast choice of Tuscan wines.
During the years the restaurant has been regularly frequented by painters like Tirinnanzi and Guarnieri, actors, singers and Vips, among them, Paul Newman, Benigni, Spike Lee, John Travolta and the Countess Pallavicini. Free parking in a nearby garage. Prices Euros 26/35 drinks excluded.
